A flying roach did that to my dad.

To put his reaction into perspective I once saw him pop his thumb like a grape with a 5kg hammer and he barely blinked. He put electrical tape on it, then drove a skid steer mini digger all day using that thumb to steer it.

He screamed bloody murder when the roach went in. He yelled and hit his head and went completely nuts the whole way to the hospital. It was biting apparently.

People wonder why I am completely fine handling spiders, snakes, basically anything but when I see a roach I must immediately kill it.

Make your home as unattractive to pests as possible. You’re not going to be able to have airflow and keep the pests out of your computer.

Below is a dump of things I did when I had to deal with roaches.

Reduce moisture as much as possible. Roaches love water. Any leaks, even slow ones, should be addressed. Puddles should not be left ever.

Seal up any holes. If they’re coming out of around your outlets, there is some foam sheets you can install behind the plate to seal up that gap.

Seal up your food in your home as best as possible. No bags with clips. You must put it all in airtight containers.

Keep your kitchen and dining area clean. Never leave any dirty dishes out. All leftovers should be dealt with ASAP. Clean your sink, counters, table, and floor.

Take special care to maintain your dishwasher. Clean your garbage disposal daily at the least.

You must only eat in your designated dining room. Do not eat anywhere else.

Clean all of your floors daily. Sweep and mop. Vacuum your couch.

Take out your trash daily at the least.

You will also need to treat for the pests. If you’re sharing walls with other households and they’re not doing the same as you and they are not getting treatments, you have my condolences.

(I’m in this comment and I don’t like it 🙃)

Economy is too fucked to move. Depression is too severe to have the energy to deal with moving. Dealing with rent is just so fucked up, too expensive. So yea… kinda stuck here with my shitty family for the meantime… 🤷‍♂️

By keeping them out of my home.

I live in Hong Kong, very warm and wet. We simply have mosquito nets on every window. Alternatively you can try to live higher.

But even without those, I don’t really see much people having this problem. Perhaps it’s sampling bias.

Where I live, roaches are particularly bad. Especially the tiny ones. The $100 I give to Terminex every quarter is probably the only bill I am very happy to pay. They do a good job.

They’re attracted to the heat your devices put off. If possible, keep them powered off when not in use, instead of in sleep/rest modes as those can still keep some systems running warm enough to be inviting to pests. Keeping things elevated also helps, so if your PC sits on the floor, you should consider clearing some space on your desk, instead.

If possible, nothing that’s plugged into a wall should rest on your floors. Elevate everything you can; your computers, your TV, your game consoles, your router, the brick for your laptop charger… Keep it all on a desk or shelf or something, if possible. If you have the resources, use an IR camera to scout for hotspots on your floors, as a lot of devices will put off more heat than you may assume.

Wrap roach trap tape/ very very strong double sided tape on your desks legs

Those things can fly, but they prefer to crawl

I don’t think there are any holes in my computer large enough for roaches to get into, but I did once have a router that I only realized had an ant colony inside of it when I took it apart to move. Not sure how to prevent that from happening again.

Proper pest control. Hire a professional to complete a service as often as is needed. Mine comes once a quarter and covers both inside and outside of the house. Very convenient.

I wish someone just commits arson on my house so insurance can fix this.

Anyone wanna get a quick release of dopamine by performing an exorcism on my cursed house? (with a flame thrower)

      Just kidding… unless… 👀

Recurring treatment by a professional service, otherwise use a roach killer product with boric acid (or just buy boric acid). It’s the only thing that’s actually worked for me.

I bought a refrigerator from Best Buy about 7 years ago and when it arrived it came with cockroaches. For days after the fridge was delivered I’d find dead roaches on the floor or see them scamper away when I turned on the light. So I bought a big bag of boric acid powder and lightly sprinkled that stuff around the kitchen floor leaving a nice thin dusty coat on the tile. After three days I vacuumed up the powder and I never saw another roach again.

If you have bugs coming from outside, you can hire an exterminator to spray around the premier of your home to keep them out. If you’ve got an infestation, you’re going to have to deal with that. You can’t protect just your computer, without sealing it behind plastic or something.

I’d say prevent them from entering your home alltogether. But I’m not too familiar with very warm and wet climates so Idk if that’s even an option.

Go to your hardware store, buy some gap filler and to stop the bugs coming in you could fill up all the holes in your house pc
