Hi, I’m also Terencio on mastodon.social and Sergio on slrpnk.net. I mostly use this account when there are issues on slrpnk.net.

Starting in 1943 Switzerland attempted to shoot down American and British aircraft, mainly bombers, overflying Switzerland. Six aircraft were downed by Swiss Air Force fighters and nine by anti-aircraft cannons; 36 airmen were killed.
Hey, I’m guessing miniseries count, right? If not, just ignore numbers 6, 8, and 9.
Do you have a reference, or an essay that provides an overview of that? I’ve heard it before (and am willing to believe that it’s true) but it’s kind of a hard thing to look up on google scholar.
The voters. The voters forced this.
I know this is a joke. I know that. But I keep thinking of switching to Mint, and now there’s going to be a part of my brain saying: “wait, there was some reason not to do that… I don’t remember what, but it sounded pretty bad…”
Vassal - an open-source (LGPL-2.1) boardgame engine. basically, people build different modules for each game they want to play, then they can play that game over the internet or solo. Mostly focused on “chit-and-hex” style wargames.
I’m constantly torn between “I should make more of an effort to keep this cyberpunk community alive” and “I should give up on this whole Lemmy thing”
I hear ya, fam. One thing I decided Lemmywise was: only to do things that I find fun, not make it too much of a chore. It can be tough to decide exactly what that level is, tho…

Yeah, it’s frustrating to be in that position. Some communities I can post to, but some I only have comments to contribute.
tracing the pictures and modifying them
some activists made an entirely new issue of Tintin that way…
Imagine if you fender-bended the reverend right in front of it. Rev would be like: why did you do that? You: (points to sign.)
Yeah, I wouldn’t have minded if we’d all washed the dishes together. iirc I never cooked for them again; I brought take-out once for a special occasion, but I told them to eat out of the containers bc I wasn’t doing their dishes.
One consideration is: is there an “evil genie / monkey’s paw” caveat to this? Like, maybe someone’s death is postponed, but they are in terrible agony every second until then. Or maybe they die on Mars, but a dictator destroys Earth in the process of getting us there.
That might make a half-decent sci-fi story. Like: someone gains this capability, but they have a notion that there’s an evil-genie caveat to it. So they try to advance science, but just a little bit at a time; basically they are experimenting to make sure there’s no such caveat (and to get around it, if there is.) However, they are leaving a trail of the dead. And at the end, it turns that while no individual death/accomplishment had a monkeys-paw-like side-effect, all of the deaths combined resulted in a terrible downside.
Same. I’d save it for myself in case I was being tortured by terrorists or received a terminal diagnosis or something.
I eventually learned that. tbh I think I just associate cast iron pans with that annoying former roommate.
Socialism is when the mice make their own cheese.
If you don’t think it’s funny that’s OK. I’m just gonna explain why I think it’s hilarious.
See, the gag of “an omniscient god hanging out with you” could be done in a single panel. Maybe the second panel, slightly modified, maybe it shows the boy and the girl standing next to a broken vase or something. But this comic extends it another couple panels. You see the crying kid and the smug girl. You see the kid with a freakin dunce cap on and the two other kids (with the god) looking at him. You see that their life really is worse because of this. The smug expression and the dunce cap are secondary gags, the real joke is that the stirp’s saying: see? it really is bad. See this? See this?
I think it’s pretty funny, but if you don’t agree that makes sense too.
