Excellent idea – but currently it is more expensive to ship reusable materials than it is to bury it, burn it, or send it to a poor country in the global south where it ends up in a river then makes its way to the great garbage patch in the Pacific. We people de-prioritize some really important stuff. You’re right – but the focus has to shift economically away from endless money printing and ever-increasing profits. We need economics that focus around human need first. Reward companies for putting people first, rather than capital. Until that happens, or I don’t know – luxury communism under fusion energy happens first – (you know, where scarcity basically disappears at scale because we can suddenly apply energy to big projects like global water access via desalinization and vertical farms in low-food-density areas like the desert, etc.) – we probably will continue to be under the thumb of this shitty system. Nobody wants to fight the powerful. Not really.
Living in Seattle I often found myself missing work to just ride around on LINK and the bus system all over the place. I completely understand.
Probably Peru or Chile, Northern Chile. Not quite the Atacama Desert, but just south, along the forgotten Pacific coastline. Peaceful, secluded, not terribly pricy, and the people are all quite kind and community centered.

I was laid off in October as part of a restructuring. I knew it was coming months in advance – so when the big day came, I had all of my assets and IP that I had ever built over the last 3 years, already saved on a cloud server. I also purged anything that was unfinished, backed up, or otherwise legally mine to remove because it was not a current project or asset. When I was given my push out the door, I informed them I had already cleaned up any messes left behind, to ensure a smooth, clean space to transition for the new designer responsible for all learning content within the org. They didn’t say anything for about 2 minutes. Then the call ended. It was the single most satisfying departure I’ve ever felt, and to this day I talk shit on social media directly to them, and they can’t do anything about it. I also got a little severance for not quitting first, so added bonus for patience I guess.
This place is definitely focused on solidarity and camaraderie and not pseudo-acedemic brow-beating and trolling. It was worth a shot to see what this place was all about. Whatever. Later Lemmygrad.
