I hate to admit it, but we’re on the wrong side of World War III aren’t we? We’re gonna get anhilated in an AI-fuelled nuclear war, and we can only hope that an enlightened post-scarcity utopia is on the other side.

And then posted about it on social media and then just sort of did nothing and carried on.

I just wish I saw this path to action like every European and Canadian does. Like, if you speak out or burn shit it’s just jail and no job. How does that help anyone? Like, what is a plan y’all think would work? I just don’t get it.

Also people are like “Pull a (Insert Country)” and march and throw your leaders out.

Without realizing just how fucking huge vs how fucking small these countries are. Like, yeah, that’s great when your entire country is the size of Ohio and has one major city where 90% of people live and its also the capital.

I know. It’s feels like protesting a whole planet because it’s so big. Half the country is illiterate and on board with this shit too. My dad just died and I’m not going to the funeral because of the Trump cult and how betrayed I feel. My family sees me as less than. People have no idea the pain some of us feel from this shit. It’s beyond awful. I’d leave the country but it’s spreading everywhere else too and nobody wants shitty Americans in their homeland.

That’s the frustrating part. I keep seeing videos taking about how we can resist, but they never really have a solution. It always comes back to no violence, but general strike maybe?

Ok, so I’ve been general striking. I refuse to be violent. So what now? It’s still shit.

I call my useless reps, I write emails, I help where I can (admittedly little, but it’s all I’ve got). It’s still shit.

I spent the last 20+ years trying to help politically dense individuals understand the how and why. It didn’t move the needle.

        I’m so tired.

I think you lost the plot somewhere around “I refuse to be violent”

Do you want a world where only innocent people are hurt or a world where mean/evil people are hurt as well in response?

If you only want innocent people to be hurt, keep being non violent. It only helps the oppressor. When you resist, when you thrash and smash and burn and stab, you force them onto their backfoot.

Seriously, pacifism is an evil idealogy that a lot seem to subscribe to as if it is some noble ideal. When in reality it is a selfish one that requires you to stand by as the meek and innocent are trampled, as your friends, family and community are trampled. It is isolationism for the individual.

The question that always finishes the argument is “why do you believe your moral character is more important than other people’s lives?”

I don’t think anyone expects you to do anything about it, but the endless posts of “are we the bad guys?” don’t really absolve you either.

I think most Europeans are rooting for you, we know it is a shit show that you are enduring, just as we are too. There’s solidarity in that. But there is also a feeling that it’s popular for some people to turn in posts like this as form of virtue signalling.

So yeah, not blaming you and we know that it’s happening to you too, but posts like this are not reading the global room.

Also, if you are doing something, no matter how seemingly small, thank you.

I appreciate the tough love honesty there and also the supportive words.

I’m taking digital privacy seriously so the money made off my information is not used to fund fascism. It’s extremely hard to do. I’ve offered to help others but people just don’t understand.

Even if you just use another email that sells data, it’s still better than everyone using gmail. I cancelled Amazon Prime, deleted Facebook, deleted a ton of Reddit posts back to 2013, deleted unneeded accounts, deleted Spotify, avoid YouTube except on shared family TV, avoid IoT in my house, and lots of other measures. I’m also working on a self hosting project.

This stuff matters. Best to stop giving your information away. Get away from big tech as much as possible.

I do think realising that connection the capitalism-big tech-fascism blob is really important.

Especially as it gives you multiple targets.

You can boycott big tech. Amazon, netflix, meta etc. that, if enough people do it, weakens their power.

Likewise, realising that you are a resource that powers their machine (they need you more than you need them). That can be physical labour or the data and information you provide them with.

Frequently they take without asking too. Turning off those pipelines puts the power back with you.

            Nice.

I am sure the germans have a precise term for this

    I propose these:

    • Existenzkrise (existential crisis)
    • schleichender Verfall (creeping deterioration)
    • schleichende Faschisierung (slowly becoming more and more fascist

In increasing order of specificity regarding your text

That would probably be " Wettbewerbsfähigkeit " from “Wettbewerb” (competition, but it’s actually from “Wette” (bet, rivalry) and “bewerben” (to vie/seek) ) and “Fähigkeit” (ability).

If it’s any consolation, there are quite a few countries where this is a thing. I don’t want to think percentage wise, it would make me sad.
