No one should be surprised that as these people seize power, which is what they are doing, the party, not the dumbass president and his goons alone, this doesn’t end with him, that they kick people out of the in group as they don’t need them.

That is fascist 101. These fucking dumbshits trust the ones that will kick them out to tell them what to do.

    many speakers are anti-Mormon

this here is coded language. for one, it shows you that the author is mormon (no one else uses the term anti-mormon)

Ex-Mormon here. I’d like to point out that the author used the incorrect full name of the aforementioned cult in the article. My likeliest guess is that they’re someone who was never Mormon and has had little to no contact with a practicing Mormon in their life. So, in the interest of fair journalism, they looked for a cursory glance at Mormonism’s usual critics and the church’s rebuttal to those critics. They may have used the label ‘anti-Mormon’ with the same casualness that someone would use ‘pro-life’ in an article.

Looking at the author’s profile and other articles on Salon, it seems like this guess holds the most weight.

Wouldn’t a Mormon say that the speakers are anti LDS, since they consider ‘Mormon’ to border on a slur?

Utah exists for a reason. The Christian death cult and all its fucked-ed up spin-offs have always been like this.

I’m far too tired to read the article, but Christians disliking other Christians and thinking that other Christians aren’t real Christians is totally on point.

Naively I think this fits, but just based on the title.

We have hundreds of years of religious wars in Europe that proves it’s an old Christian tradition.

Yeah. It was a general lie that the founding fathers weren’t faithful Christians. Outside of autistic Thomas Jefferson, they still seemed to have some form of Christian beliefs. The issue was that each state had its own form Christianity, including state churches, and realized that the federal entity could not be religious as it could cause a major schism in the new Republic.

Also, the Bill of Rights was written with the intent to only bind the Federal Government. It was absolutely intended that individual states could regulate religion and that choice was to be made at the state level.

And there is this old commandment that is like to be ignored.

        Thou shalt not kill. *

        • There is no asterisk, but all religions that have that commandment act like there is.

I strongly encourage nasty in-fighting among Christian cults.

“Hey Mormons, you gonna let those Protestants and Catholics get away with saying you’re not real Christians? I wouldn’t, but I’m not a little bitch.”

On the contrary, many speakers are anti-Mormon, including Trump ally and Southern Baptist megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress, who has repeatedly called the Latter Day Saints a “cult.”

Not wrong, but utterly rich coming from the cult of inbreeding.

Without even reading the article, I — and untold large numbers of far more scholarly types — could have told you that. Who among those not under the mass delusionment spell doesn’t know this?

Yeah, incoherence and hypocrisy is baked into fascism. That is literally how it has always worked and partially why it is so succesful for some groups of people.

Yes, you’re right, but the questions is who cares if it’s coherent or not? Imagine complaining that Fascist not only murdered millions of people but their ideology was also incoherent. Missing the forest for the trees?

I care. Because every day I wake up to more of this fucking nightmare and all I can hope for is that some of the gaping chasms ‘we’ see everyday becomes visible as cracks to the slavering base and peel off a few more. If one person sees the inconsistency and abstains or goes for 3rd party then I think the few seconds of time posting was worth it.

Yeah, I think hoping that arguments about incoherent ideologies will sway voters is exactly why democrats keep losing.

That is a pretty weird take to me. Especially with all of the other, much more visible, reasons democrats keep losing. But I’m not here to change your mind. Nor do I think there is a ton of hope in changing hearts and minds when both of the organs are rotten to the core by 70 years of rightwing fuckery in schools, media, and public discourse. But hoping when hope is mostly gone is kind of my thing.

The other reasons are just more symptoms of the same thing: being out of touch with the people. Party leaders keep talking about how MAGA are hypocrites or how right wing legal theories are flawed like it’s going to convince anyone to stop voting for Trump. It won’t.
