This escape from reality is pretty much what (mass, commercial) tourism is anyhow.

Though I don’t know how they distract people from global warming.

I remember reading a think piece defending tourist traps, saying that it’s better that tourists concentrate there than spread out in search of more “authentic” places.

tbf I think most locals would agree with the idea of keeping the tourists sequestered in a space that isn’t bothering them

That’s a partial fallacy inasmuch as people who search out more authentic places tend to do a different kind of tourism, although that can still be annoying, even destructive, for the locals.

OTOH there’s something to it, just like gentrification of urban areas. It’s a slow process, and when it’s complete some people seek out more “authentic” places again.

At 50°C, I don’t care how many autonomous killer drones they have in there, I’m rushing inside and ruining the rich fucks’ day by getting shot in front of them

Yeah, this place exists not far from here. They’ve built a crappy outdoor pool and separated it from the motorway by a screen with a beach and palm trees printed on it. Instead of protecting and maintaining the river beaches full of ash and beautiful hillsides of oak that also exist here. Humans are strange.

Not sure what makes it a political cartoon. Looks like parts of Louisiana and Texas. 🤔
