Specifically, these Nintendo Switch emulators illegally circumvent Nintendo’s TPMs in order to run illegal copies of Nintendo Switch games.
I mean, sure, that’s what they do when people use them for that. 🤷 I can play Game Boy games in my browser, should we take down all the browsers, too?

First revision could be hacked by putting it to recovery mode. All models can be hacked using modchip.
And there are flash carts that work on every model now. They don’t work for online play of course, but neither do traditional modchips/softmods.
They also don’t allow you to play digital-only games (which is the majority of the Switch game library), only games available as cartridge can be played with the flash cart.
You also lose all the other advantages of homebrew, like running emulators or using almost any 3rd party Bluetooth controllers without an external dongle.
And they are also expensive as fuck, a Picofly modchip costs under 10€.
And with a modchip or softmod you CAN go online, you just have to use a legitimate copy for playing online, and can play pirated games offline. If you use the flashcard you will get banned eventually, so you’re limited to playing offline and need a 2nd switch if you want to play online
Wait I’m confused now, if you play a legitimate game online using a switch which has previously had a flash cart used it can be banned? I was under the impression that as long as you didn’t go online it was fully undetectable, allowing you to use legitimate games online as you want without needing to switch between emummc and sysnand. Nintendo probably doesn’t care about the homebrew software in the same way they do piracy, but unfortunately for them that’s all the flash carts can do, hence why from their perspective I say every version is cracked.
I’m not up to date on switch modchips but last I checked you needed to solder a flex pcb such that it made contact with pads under a BGA chip. As it goes that’s quite intensive rework for a hobbyist. I’m an electrical engineer and use professional BGA rework equipment at work regularly. Our success rate for BGA rework is like 80% for ICs that have been desoldered and resoldered before. Sure you don’t need to remove the chip to get the flex PCB soldered, but the risk of shorting balls and needing to remove it on an expensive piece of hardware is too much for many hobbyists.

That was only the case for the OLED model, not the LCD and Switch Lite. Nowadays on the OLED model a different method gets used to solder to the Dat0 connection (known as Kamikaze method).
I’ve done it on all three models and the OLED is the only one that is genuinely difficult to do, yet I was still able to do it without a microscope. The LCD version and Switch Lite are easy enough to do that someone with basic soldering skills can do it
