The funniest part about calling Lake Ontario “Lake America” is that Canada didn’t even name the damn thing.
The name Ontario comes from an Indigenous/Iroquoian name that predates both the United States and Canada by centuries. In fact, the province of Ontario was named after the lake, not the other way around.
So we’re essentially renaming an Indigenous-named international lake because we’re mad at Canada, despite Canada having nothing to do with its original name.
That’s some truly impressive historical illiteracy. “Lake America” sounds less like a geographical renaming and more like a toddler putting their name on someone else’s toy because they’re pissed off at them.
And the toddler is pissed off at them because they wouldn’t let him shit in their sandbox…
Just go to therapy, my guy. Arbitrarily naming bodies of water that nobody outside your country will use will not fill the hole in you.
I wish there were more holes in him.
Do you know how to make a Holy Bartender?
I mean just the fact he’s so stupid he can’t pull something from history to make a point. Shit sounds like when you ask toddlers what to name things, “what do you want to call the dog in the backyard?” “Backyard dog!”
This is from the 90s.
He was always dumb as a sack of dildos.
"Business started from the day one, from early in the, in the world.
Many many many many years ago, a hundreds of millions of years ago people were doing business and they were trading in rocks and stones and other things"
Google Maps obeyed Pedo Daddy instantly when it came to Gulf of Mexico.
👅🍑
Well, sorta?
The name was changed for US users, as google’s policy is to use whatever a user’s country’s official name for something is (also true for where borders are drawn and so on). In mexico (and presumably every other country), it’s still “Golfo de México”. I don’t know if they’ll change Lake Ontario to whatever it was trump did but it would surprise me if they didn’t, and just as with the Gulf it’s going to only be americans that are impacted & everyone else will be continuing to ignore his nonsense.
edit: (You apparently can change your domain to view what it looks like from other countries - though I couldn’t figure out how to do it in the ten seconds I tried just now. Some domains display some alternative names in parens too I’m told, though I haven’t looked into that one at all. I know in Mexico and Egypt it didn’t show up as Gulf of America when I checked, so there’s that. The next most famous example is the shitshow that is the Persian Gulf / Gulf of Iran / Arabian Gulf debate.)
I’m French and in my case it’s “Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)”, so yeah both names
Same thing in Spain. Kind of disgusting they’re forcing it on everyone.
CoMaps still shows the proper name (Gulf of Mexico), and no mention of the Gulf of America, so that’s another easy win for OSM and CoMaps
Huh - very interesting! Does it display that way in both english / spanish?
Oh that’s an interesting question. Could be different. But no, just checked for French. It displays the same thing in both English and French
In Germany it says “Golf von Mexiko (Gold von Amerika)”.
So weird, I wonder why it wasn’t doing that in arabic. God it’s not enough google is evil, they have to be obtuse about their shit while they do it.
It’s not officially the Gulf of America in the US. The President can’t just arbitrarily rename shit.
In the US, the maintaining authority on references for geographic features is the Board of Geographic Names. It’s a federal agency operating under the secretary of the interior - and unfortunately, the president does have the unilateral authority to direct them to change official names (in theory he can’t change it for internal political reasons - declaring something the “Barack Obama memorial dick-shaped rock” or whatever - but I don’t know if that has ever been ruled on)
edit: missing a word
There’s a public process the agency is required to go through for changing names of places. Trump bypassed that and had the USGS update the GNIS with the name change through an Executive Order and not through the BGN. When called out on it they tried to get it through Congress, but the Senate didn’t approve the name change.
It isn’t the Gulf of America.
The board actually did vote on the name in 2006, but rejected it.
It is currently listed in the GNIS as “Gulf of America” (you can confirm this here)

Yes. But it wasn’t changed through the legal public process, so the GNIS is not accurate.
From 43 USC Ch. 11A: BOARD ON GEOGRAPHIC NAMES:
The Secretary of the Interior, hereinafter called the Secretary, conjointly with the Board on Geographic Names, as hereinafter provided, shall provide for uniformity in geographic nomenclature and orthography throughout the Federal Government. The Secretary may exercise his functions through such officials as he may designate, except that such authority as relates to the final approval or review of actions of the Board on Geographic Names shall be exercised by him, or his Under or Assistant Secretaries. (July 25, 1947, ch. 330, §1, 61 Stat. 456) [Emphasis mine]
The above lays out very clearly that the Board of Geographic Names is a non-independent body, reporting to and operating under the authority of the Board but subordinate to the Secretary of the Interior, who possesses the ultimate authority on executive (not procedural) matters.
The Secretary shall cause such studies and investigations to be made and such records to be kept as may be necessary or desirable in carrying out the purposes of this chapter […]
(July 25, 1947, ch. 330, §4, 61 Stat. 456.)The above clearly establishes that the creation and maintenance of records is left to the discretion of the secretary.
The Board, subject to the approval of the Secretary, shall formulate principles, policies, and procedures […] Action may be taken by the Secretary in any matter wherein the Board does not act within a reasonable time. […]
(July 25, 1947, ch. 330, §3, 61 Stat. 456.) [Emphasis mine]The above was referenced in the most recent precedent for this method of directing name changes, and this interpretation has been supported by now three administrations, as Sec. Jewell directed (in a much more polite order than that trumpling’s tripe) the board to adopt the name for Mt. Denali. The board has since then repeatedly clarified that to override an executive order, they would need the intervention of congress (particularly during attempts to revert, and the later successful reversion, of the name from Mt. Denali).
Since it’s establishment, the BGN has operated under the executive direction of the Secretary of the Interior, who in turn is directed by the Executive Branch. There is no requirement, in the initial act, subsequent revisions or in the organizational bylaws (which interestingly have been changed by the trump admin, but I couldn’t find a meaningful difference to the archived copies?) that name changes must be submitted through the board, that changes to GNIS require approval by the board or that there was any procedural reason that what Trump did by having the Sec. Interior order the change was in any way unofficial or, except morally, improper.
I’m sorry, as much as I wish this weren’t the case, you’re simply wrong. By every measure the US government has established, that is it’s official name in the USA.
Honestly, I’m just impressed he didn’t try slapping his name on it.
Right?!?
They should rename every lake to “Lake America”. And replace hard words Trump struggles with to Trump.
Like positive. Or negative. Or vaccination.

lol
Lake Epstein Files
Who cares what this senile child-fucker calls anything?
I just know he’s the main character in the TRUMP-EPSTEIN FILES ™
Both Google and Apple Maps went along with “Gulf of America,” unfortunately, so we’re going to have to see.
One thing to note, with Gulf of Mexico he actually had Republicans pass a bill to do the change.
This one is an executive order. An executive order is what the name implies. It is not a law, but an order for executive agencies to follow. So while employees of agencies like FBI or IRS are instructed to call the lake as lake America, as far as the rest of the country is concerned the lake is still the Lake Ontario.
It’s clearly is a stunt to distract from the pedophilia and a failed war.
No, the gulf was also only an executive order. There was a bill that passed the House, but the Senate never took it up.
Looks like I missed that, my bad. Thanks for correcting.
Ok, so what Google and Apple did was pure ass kissing.
Kinda yes, kinda no.
They don’t manually update that. They pull from the US Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System (USGS GNIS). That system got updated with the executive order.
The kinda yes is that they’re not legally obligated to use that data, like federal agencies are. They just use it for consistency for all users within the US, and for the fact that it’s freely available and the most detailed data for the entire US. The could have manually kept it the Gulf of Mexico, but they have a pretty consistent record of following whatever the federal government of a location does. At least Apple does, idk about Google as much though I imagine they’d do the same.
It’s clearly is a stunt to distract from the pedophilia and a failed war.
With the minor side effect of fucking with the economies and well being of the people in 2 countries…
Sure, but why should he care, he is making killing. Last year he made 4 billions that we know of.
Just to put in perspective, before he became president there was a lot of evidence that he wasn’t a billionaire as he claimed, now he definitively is.
Then maybe the world should stop celebrating his “winning” and instead consistently point out he is a fraudster that should be either jailed or executed
The Open Street Maps website doesn’t show the name of the gulf for me, but CoMaps shows it as Gulf of Mexico. I should find a way to uninstall Google Maps.

USA appropriating the name of the entire continent is so dumb.
From what I understand, they’ve only changed that for the Americans.
Here you go

In Australia, both Google and Apple Maps say ‘Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)’
Same here in Canada. Really wondering if they’ll do the same for Lake Ontario, I suspect that’s going to go over very poorly.
Same in the UK on google maps. Pathetic and spineless.
“They only openly embrace fascism in one country.” No, fuck us and fuck our capitulating corporations. Don’t let them think that you’ll let them do the same to you.
Those guys were invited to his inauguration. So yeah.
They paid for it
They geo localize the maps as your government position. Users from different countries see different political borders in contested land.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim level
Is Google maps a thing? Have they changed the name?
They did when he declared the Gulf of Mexico had a new name, so did others. Nearly immediately.
I stopped using Google Maps the second this happened. Fuck that cowtow bullshit.
The only kowtow I’ll accept is back when I could move around during an emote animation in the early ESO days.
Only if you were looking at the map from a US IP address iirc. It’s still gulf of Mexico for the rest of the world, but with the stupid name in brackets now after it.
They should put what everywhere calls every location in brackets if they’re gonna do that.
The names were not and will not be changed in an official capacity.
Yup. I just checked MapQuest though, and they did not.
Thank you MQ.
If you want to know who still has integrity left, just open up their maps/navigation app and see what they call the Gulf of Mexico.

Child Lakist?
Oh that’s excellent
That one is clean, useful, and deals with shit. Sign would go better on one that is backed up and overflowing.
And cracked in half so that the only way to fix it is to remove it.
Nah, he uses nappies.

Trump can have this one if he can’t take the heat. ;)

Woah, haven’t seen Jeff Tiedrich in a hot minute. I’m glad he’s alright (I guess?), but I didn’t miss his milquetoast liberal piss takes

Under the authority of myself, I’m hereby issuing an executive order-
“Lake Erie”, located on the border of the Canadian province of Ontario and the US states of Ohio Gozaimasu, De La Ruesynavia and New Jerk shall be effective immediately named ‘Eerie Lake’
I am also renaming the township of ‘Erie’ to ‘Eerie’
Thank you for your attention on this matter.
- Ms. Lane of Australia, Secretary of Procrastination.
I like this one. Let’s do this one.
I doubt Maps.me is on board.

It uses OpenStreetMap which is a community project; I do think the community has more sense than that though.
Still producing noisy distraction from EPSTEIN FILES.
Sad old man. One day a lot of people will smile when he goes away.Gulf of America, Lake America, how long will it be until they rename the Rio Grande the “River America” and the Atlantic the “America Ocean”?
At this rate he’s gonna rename the continent
Shh, don’t give 'em any ideas.
He already said he’s considering renaming the Atlantic or the Pacific into ‘American Ocean’
I guess we’ll find out if he’s more mad about ‘Chyna’ or ‘Yurop’ soon. ‘North American Treaty Organization’…
One day, as his brain continues to liquefy, he’ll proudly announce that he’s renaming the USA to the United States of America.
“God bless the uniytudh chuych”
America is just the feminised version of Amerigo (from Amerigo Vespucci, the namesake of the continents)
So, he’ll rename it ‘United States of Donald’, since feminisation of names is ‘woke’ and it should obviously be named after him, not some washed up Italian explorer.
That would require an awareness of history
Are you being serious when you say that he’s said he is considering doing that?
Yes unfortunately-
“We have a gulf and we have a lake – now all we need is an ocean. Maybe we’ll have to change the name of the Atlantic and/or the Pacific,” he told reporters, sitting at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office. “Maybe we’ll change them both.”
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/aug/27/trump-renames-lake-ontario-america
Let’s call them the Big America Ocean and the Beautiful America Ocean. To avoid jealousy the oceans will alternate in name each week. The appropriate updated rules along with corresponding legal threats have been forwarded to Apple and Google.
He’ll probably call both the American ocean for maximum confusion
Well, they do connect so you could make an argument they are the same body of water, if you disregard culture, history and common sense
He’s just gonna rename both Atlantic and Pacific to American Ocean and everyone be confused. Also every lake of the great lakes will be renamed Lake of America so that the shorthand is an appropriate AAAAA!
Well, they are connected, so it’s really just one big lake with stages. So he’ll remain the whole thing to the Big Great Lake of America
I mean technically the oceans (and all the major rivers) are connected too, so he can rename all rivers to ‘The Greatest American River’ and all oceans to "The biggliest American Ocean’
Now you’re talking! I took a look, and it’s all touching everything!! EVERYTHING IS PLANET AMERICA!!
Strait of America
