Best they can do is brag that they destroyed the rest of the world far worse, by saying oil price and bond collapse is worse elsewhere. “Iran is certain to collapse and make an unconditional surrender any day now, after begging for a deal for the last 5 months” is their only policy.

I predict the US will declare victory and leave after the mid terms instead of holding out until 2028 innauguration. They can’t do it now, because even if imminent collapse is a danger, it would be worse for the mid terms if they either followed through on MoU, or just declared victory and left today, with election focused on debate over just how victorious the retreat is, and how much Iran/China gains influence over their former client states in the Gulf.

Iraq troop withdrawals in 2 weeks can be another midterm disaster, as Iran with Iraq deal, could invade Kuwait just in time to expose Trump/US impotence for the mid terms.

I fear its going to be worse. After the midterm, Trump has nothing holding him back and a limited time before congress, with any luck, is democrat controlled. Trump will launch a ground invasion or worse nuke Iran. Things get much worse and he can point the finger at dems saying its their fault since it didnt happen until they were elected. Trump then runs for his 3rd term because who is actually gonna stop him?

I don’t dismiss this fear on the basis of Trump’s sanity, but I dismiss it on not achieving any victory and causing massive international blowback among allies and adversaries. A nuclear attack does not stop Iran retaliations (oil reaching $150-300 with world looking to China for answers). 100 nuclear attacks doesn’t stop retaliation and causes permanent regional/global pollution. The forces that stopped him from ending civilization in April were not mid terms, and are the same after mid terms. Impotence and a global rallying cry against naziism. Losing this war and eventual liberation of Ukraine regions, was preplanned in managing rivals red lines.

It’s actually very easy for Trump to declare victory and leave. “Any Dumocrat traitor that says we should have a forever war instead of this great victory, is just yet another Biden forever war stooge, that wants to destroy America with trans in women sport. Only a third term can stop their madness”

Donnie dumbass has too much narcissism to admit that he was at fault; I guess he’d have to blame Pete and/or Marco and/or Vance (yeah, yeah, Vance supposedly set up himself up as “distancing” himself from it in order to run in 2028, but seriously, in donnie’s base who are they going to believe - the awkward couch-fucker and Thiel cut-out, or their golden god emperor?) and then throw them under the bus, I suppose.

Even with that, now that Iran knows they can put the squeeze on donnie, they are not likely to let donnie have low oil prices.

You could increase the cost more with tariffs and use the funds to subsidize public transportation and grants to open source electric cars.

There’s a lot you can do to help keep oil prices high.

Trump can’t stop it. The Iranians control the strait; only they decide when we’re done. Nothing Trump can do, even surrendering and withdrawing completely from the entire middle east, can force them to let ships through if they don’t want to.

I cannot overemphasize how royally and permanently Trump fucked up by disrupting the previous status quo, where Iran still thought the US had power to enforce maritime law.

They have no reason to stop the ships if trump buggers off. They’ll charge, but there’s not a lot trump can do about that before he dies.

I don’t think Trump has the ability to stop. His ego won’t let him and his party won’t force him. If the US surrenders (and that’s exactly what it will be), the MAGA movement will die. Trump and Iran are like Putin and Ukraine right now.

Consequently, this is also why the Democrats absolutely can not force a surrender either: it will give MAGA a scapegoat. “We were winning but the leftist socialists made us surrender!” It doesn’t matter that it doesn’t make any sense, MAGA will accept that as absolute truth because they’re a cult.

The access charge would probably be less than the current cost.

Or a better way to phrase it: more oil tankers would traverse the strait if the price was known and stable, compared to the risk of attack and unknown outcome they currently face.

There was no shortage of people on here telling me Biden cold stop Netanyahu with one phone call, or by just stopping arming him. Admittedly that’s a huge oversimplification to the point of untruth. (Israel has weapons to last a long long time and no one really respects trump beyond lip service, least of all Netanyahu.)

But he can stand down his bombing and Iran would open the strait with charges and international oil shipments would resume.

No because the Iranian governement has demanded Israel stops attacking Lebanon.

Bibi won’t and Trump can’t make him, so he can’t make peace with Iran.

Thats the silly part, if the US hadn’t partaken in the bombing they would’ve been fine.

Donnie dumbass went the exact wrong direction on that. Probably because a whole lot of republicons had to politicize everything about the pandemic, including working from home.

Many of them running companies acted like people were just being pussies and/or bad employees for not being resistant to foolish RTO orders. After many years of working from home put the lie to the idea that WFH couldn’t work. It turns out it worked very well. But shitty managers are extreme narcissists and want to have their minions visible and subject to stupid whims that are only really possible when you are in-person. If someone recently created/leased new office space, they are all the more idiotic about it.

Oh, and then conservative idiots wanted to apply this RTO stuff to government work. Of fucking course. Sure, let’s burn up more energy in useless commuting.
