N=1 and all, but my son was quite capable of explaining, clearly and in detail, his inner life at three. He’s on the spectrum and highly intelligent, so that may make him an outlier.
(Both sons did fall for me calling saffron “monkey fur” well into grade school though.)
I think kids usually start speaking earlier than that.
Not enough to diagnose their inner state with a standard therapist.
