Reddit is ending support for RSS feeds, as the company continues tightening access to its trove of user-generated content.

Didn’t they also have a deal with google and now regret it because people are just reading the AI result in google search instead of visiting the actual reddit link?
OPENA/chatgpt recently started using reddit less and less, on thier references so there was a drop in traffic, thats why reddit panicked and started forcing the logins, they need new actual users to generate content, and not AI slop. Banning people left and right last year dint help them at all. and now people are afraid to login and lurk instead, they are tyring to force lurkers to login to an account to use.
i was on another forum, and the people that use spamming(for thier own businesses) is starting to have to make “genuine” content to fly under the radar of reddits filters.
You can’t even view actual reddit links anymore, at least not on mobile. It lets you view the page for a couple seconds and then tells you to login or switch to the app.
it sitll works mobile firefox, with the old reddit extension app, also if you sinkit or yeoldreddit extension it eliminates that. but reddit has been forcing page reloading even in oldreddit. i only use mobile reddit for lurking and nothing more.
Firefox with the Redlib Redirect addon is a workaround on Android.
…because of AI bots

Reddit, the lower intestine of the internet
constipated instestines to be exact.
I thought API access was already dead? Thats the reason a lot of us are here… (But not the reason we stayed ;) )
They made it paid
Free API access was dead. API still existed but every user needed their own key and it was IIRC paid, even for dev work.
Now it seems they’re just closing it down entirely.
I may not understand this correctly so take this with a grain of salt but I believe there was a few different APIs going on. The one that allowed all data to apps to function was killed and why we are all here. I believe this was more of a content reader, no interaction from the user.
why we are all here
That isn’t why I am here
Third party apps had to pay to access the api, and with no good way to pass that on the the users without ads, it did essentially freeze it.
RedReader still works with Reddit on the basis it’s providing accessibility features which was a carve out they got during the exodus.
Things like Stealth never used the API but did scraping which I think is dead now due to mandatory login.
Ending RSS support really sucks. But I guess it’s a bit of a blessing to remove that last bit of reddit from my feed.
Aaron Swartz helped create RSS too.
only to have it be destroyed by the MUSK-LOVING spez alien.
Also old.reddit will become an old user thing only and you need to log in every 6 months to keep it going on the account and most likely no new accounts can be created that can access old.reddit. I guess it was always inevitable that they would do this, since they forced login to use old.reddit a month back, even if they said that old.reddit would never go anywhere. The next step will be “there are so few old.reddit users that we have decided to axe it entirely”.
they have been trying to force everyone to the crappy app since '23, likely its the next step as they try to limit it on the desktop.
That’s how they’ll kill it. I have no reason to log into old.reddit anymore because they’re removing my access point to the site (RSS).
It’s so disingenuous how these phased things can be planned out by professionals. I hate it.
“At this time.”
fuck off.
Bullshit lol
