Back in 86 (release of the 4th movie) they only had one album.
It came out a month before that scene takes place (November vs December 18). It’s unlikely Dr Taylor would have heard of them yet.
That album wasn’t their debut, they had singles and were touring prior to this including opening for Madonna. That album also had a million sales in around 12 week. I don’t think t’s that implausible.
