I’ve been on HRT for nearly two years and repeatedly explained to them the legal discrimination that I’d face working for the federal government, let alone the gd military. They still send me recruitment ads and have given out my number in the past. It’s freaking exhausting.

Even if I wasn’t trans, I would still refuse to fight for a pedophilic, egomaniacal president that bombs schoolgirls to get his mushroom-shaped phallus hard.

A few administrations ago, the Air Force offered HRT, because pilots are very expensive to train so the military will do anything to keep them around.

That is honestly very unusual if they know you’re trans. What exactly is their reasoning? It seems like fun to go kill babies?

I’m a big proponent of cutting ties with family that is a net detriment to one’s life.

It’s pretty much always materially possible. It’ll likely severely reduce quality of life in the short term if you’re in a bad situation materially, but it’s almost always worth it. Obviously everyone has to make that kind of decision for themselves, but I know what I’d choose.

That’s fine if that’s what you’d choose. I was never forced to be homeless to get away from them, I didn’t need their money to afford medication or all of my access to food and shelter.

It isn’t fair to tell women like us that it is really even a choice that you can be yourself or be homeless. It is not materially possible for many of us to cut off those resources; unless we want to start pretending that trans women receive a ton of support in society, even if you live in a small city in the rust belt or a rural town where everything you know could be gone with a twenty minute drive. The most common cause of death for trans women is suicide; how isolating do you think it would be to lose everyone and everything to be homeless?

You’re valid for saying that you would make that choice, as many women do, but we don’t have to say that it is the easiest or most likely choice to encourage trans women to be certain that they need the resources that they need before choosing to cut off harmful people in their life. Very often, it is not materially possible, and that is a completely other thing that we all have to help each other manage.

I mean, this isn’t even a trans issue. Everyone has family, and even if you’re gender conforming they can be a net detriment to your life.

Yes, I am not saying that family isn’t potentially harmful, I’m saying that it does require a level of privilege to be able to afford to cut them off.

Also, this is under a post about a trans person’s experience in a community for trans femme people. Please, be considerate of what this space is for, and the specific needs and obstacles that trans people face. Even if what you said here was true for gender conforming people, we all know that it would never be true in the same way for us as it is for them, and so attempting to universalize the point also risks erasing the specificity of trans experiences.

I’m not up to date with the latest and greatest military bullshit, but… Aren’t we banned from serving in the military since Trump got back into office? Like, what’s left to discuss?
