Refuse collector Richard Colgrave, who made the discovery, says he is “disgusted” by the cruelty.
It’s hard to not get sarcastic over one rescue, while 1.8 million chicken get killed daily here in Germany. Is this good news or just feelgood kitsch?
I prefer to see it as an opportunity to spread empathy for chickens.
What this chicken experienced is the fate of nearly all male chicks in the industrial egg industry.
In Germany you can get eggs from farms that don’t gass the male chicks.
Where? And what do they do with them?

I’ve not been able to find what exactly it means to be a “cage-free” hen in Germany. It does have a hopeful ring to it, but what are their lives like exactly? Whatever the case, I’m glad for the improvement at least.
Did you read the article about 14000 birds having to be killed in BW because of bird flu? Their owners were very emotional. The comments were all “Why emotional? You were raising them to kill them” and “Why are you blaming a wild bird? It spread because of how you keep your birds.”
Anyway, it saddens me much more that 1000s of cranes are dying in Linum, Brandenburg.
Surprised the zombies didn’t get it.
if you eat animals, every feel good story is about these animals being rescued from you.
