I’m hoping to pull up a monster like this someday after having left a few in the ground. All the ones I pulled liked like they had barely been growing for a couple of months!
Did you, by any chance, transplant them when they were small? Carrots realy hate that and tend to skip root growth.
Nope, they were all direct-seeded. Three different varieties in fertile, well-draining soil with no rocks, clay, or significant compaction.
Okay, then my assumption was false and your case remains mysterious!

Rabbits actually don’t like the orange part. They like the greens. Bugs bunny fucked that up for everyone.
Many do actually—they will prefer the green part of course, but the orange part is more of treat because of the high sugary content.
