Melissa Sims said her nightmare began after she called police during an argument with her boyfriend, when she said he allegedly ransacked her home.
she said her boyfriend created an AI-generated text that called him names and made disparaging comments.
Do you really need AI for that
Right? Seems like abuse with extra steps.
Well some people need it for everything.
He made photos and videos as well
Did he? I read the article and it seemed to omit any mention of that. It’s kind of implied by the word ‘deepfake’ but the exact role AI may have had here is not clear to me.
I guess they were speaking in general. I retract my previous statement.
Welcome to fascism. Anyone (== law enforcement) will be able to produce fake evidence and send you to prison, or worse.
After eight months of legal wrangling by her attorney, prosecutors dropped the bond violation charge against her. And, last month, she went to trial on the battery charge and was acquitted.

How was this not handled within 24 hours by checking the fucking phone records??
You want authorities to investigate? Phaw!
Because that takes more time and actual work. By forcing her to trial, prosecutors and police get to up their numbers.
Most messaging services that people use these days aren’t showing up in “phone records”.

Texts would show up on phone records.
“Text” is almost always used no matter what actual messaging service was used.
Also how would AI have sent a SMS to his phone from her? It was likely an ai generated screenshot of messages.

It’s almost like that’s my point.
But “phone records”, whatever that means, won’t show telegram/imessage/signal/fb messenger/etc messages.
Not rich enough
The article doesn’t make mention of it, but I hope the boyfriend faced criminal charges for that.
