  • A lot of trans people are afraid of ICE as well, and are extra vulnerable to violence while and after being arrested: just last week a trans man lost an eye after being shot by ‘less lethal’ weapons for protesting ICE.

We just have to also be able to celebrate what little good news we have, because nothing but bad news will drive you insane. Breathing a sigh of relief over our medical access being safe for now doesn’t mean we aren’t also worried about ICE, there’s just a lot of shit going on.

Sorry if my initial response was too harsh, I see now that you weren’t trying to be rude or dismissive. I don’t think you necessarily ‘need’ to do anything other than remember that most trans people probably feel identically as you do about the political situation, we just also have our own concerns and vulnerabilities on top of that, and focusing on those doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten the other issues.

  • I switched from Windows to Mint at the tail end of September, and I’ve only had minimal issues. I backed up everything I cared about and just nuked Windows in one go, since it wasn’t compatible with 11 and I don’t want security problems. I expected my Nvidia graphics card to cause huge issues, but it literally just worked.

I did have an issue getting my Steam games to run, but it was fixed by figuring out how to change the compatibility settings on Steam (the incredibly complicated operation of right clicking on the game title).

I’ve been taking classes as well, and using Libre Office has met basically 100% of my needs. I did have some issues with converting to .docx when images were involved (resulting in images going on walkabout), but I consider that 50% a Windows problem.

  • Right now, it sounds like your are saying sending this person back to SF and sending the person next to her back to Saudi Arabia is the same.

No, you are demanding that I say that in order for her to ‘deserve’ asylum. I’m saying ‘are they literally in Saudi Arabia?’ is a shit standard.

If someone’s life is threatened because of where they live, they should be able to apply for asylum.

Its a shitty system but how likely that person is to die or worse if they go back should definitely be part of the thought process.

Again, do you believe that someone is likely to survive being run over by a truck? Her life has already been endangered, you just don’t take that danger seriously because it happened in San Francisco.
