Look at the DSM nowadays. Psychiatry hasn’t changed by a bit. They only consider “mad” those who do not look after pumping the LSC system. Unironically, those who do drugs, do crimes and look only for money are considered “sane” in nowadays society.

This… doesn’t look real. That’s not language they’d use in that notably broad time frame

Edit: this appears to be one of those “asylums turned haunted house” places. I’d be willing to bet this is a modern document they use for marketing

Wait what’s the difference between female disease, women trouble, and imaginary women trouble? I’m not sure which box to tick.

    Overstudy of religion.

Lol. You have to study it just enough to get hooked, but not enough to notice the inconsistencies.

I think this is their reference to a specific manifestation of OCD known as Scrupulosity, where the individual in question is obsessed with piety to the point where it becomes detrimental to their ability to function.

Suppression of masturbation and excessive masturbation implies they consider some level of masturbation to be not just acceptable, but required.

Suspending disbelief: How do they know?!? — both in terms of the correct level set, and what the masturbater is doing in terms of frequency.

Even if you got the right frequency and duration (better not be "masturbation for 30 years), you can still get admitted for “deranged masturbation” or just “masturbation and syphilis”

Also “excessive sexual abuse”… Cause y’know there’s a healthy amount

The Bible says you can beat slaves as much as you want as long as they dont immediately die or lose body parts,
I guess they used rules similar to that, if it’s in the good book it must be good

You can beat your spouse with a rod so long as the rod is no thicker than your thumb and no longer than your forearm.

I see “Uterine Derrangement” “Woman Troubles” and “Female Disease”, so yeah, I assume there’s a level of sexual abuse they deemed acceptable.

    The War

Yes, The War is making us all very anxious and we hear nothing but horrible news about it all day long. Please stop The War. That’s the only way we can ever be happy again.

I’d like to sign up for Masturbation for 30 Years, please.

We didn’t have cool electives like these when I was in high school.

If only we could throw people into asylums for ‘Greediness’, the world would be a much better place.

Also … Fell From Horse In War? So, what? Falling from a horse outside of a war isn’t good enough? Is it really that different, psychologically speaking, whether your equestrian accident happened during war or not?
