Isn’t it technically not a free market if pieces of it are colluding?

Not that I think this is a bad thing; a 100% free market is a terrible thing.

No, it isn’t a 100% free market if the rich can pay politicians to enact laws in their favor.

There should only be “just” laws, not unjust laws. A just law in this context would simply be any law that protects people from a violation of their will within a logical order of operations across time. So murder, rape, theft, fraud, etc., would all be illegal.

What wouldn’t be illegal? Drug use, prostitution, etc.

Would speeding be illegal? It depends. Who owns the road you’re speeding on and what did they tell you the speed limit was?

I would still own my home so if you came in it would be illegal for you to smoke crack in my bedroom because I say I don’t want you to do that, and it’s my home, so it’s my rules. If you choose not to obey I have every right to ask you to leave, and if you refuse, I have every right to use violence upon you to make you leave.

Unjust laws are just those laws that step from victimless crimes, such as say, smoking weed.

Yes but in this case neither the delivery drivers, three nor the restaurant, nor the customers win, only Uber wins.

Yeah its called the restaurants website / phone number and delivery through that has existed since the freaking 80s. Some restaurants web ordering through their website is like 20 % - 30% cheaper in my experience.

I tried this for a while… Then the restaurants I was getting from started sending orders with doorDash/uberEats drivers anyways… And always were much slower and worse service than direct.

I no longer order delivery because they all ended up going that route.

Maybe. Unfortunately the few attempts I’ve heard of where the company tries to be fairer to all parties causes the company to go bust because it isn’t sustainable. So the alternative isn’t another app, it’s to just not be lazy and go into the restaurant.

Its an absolutely garbage service and needs to no longer exist. All food delivery services like this are trash and I refuse to use them. And ridicule/shame everyone that does.

for some reason, i can’t hate them for this. i mean i never get food delivered like that anyways, so maybe my feelings don’t matter. but obviously things are not easy for under drivers.

in germany uber eats has hired exactly zero drivers, they’re all sub-subcontractors, which is major bs, and some parties are looking into forced employment for algorithmic workers

(though afaik uber the taxi company actually hires out taxi drivers and owns the cars, operating like a regular taxi company as they try and loosen regulations)

Last time I got surge pricing here it was 3x the price and the driver told me he only got a 20%ish increase on his pay, so yeah, uber pockets most of the difference

Companies like Uber frequently charge customers more and try to pocket the difference. They lowball drivers and hope they accept the lower fee.

Labour collectively agreeing to not work under a particular price is a concept that you should surely know about already. Collective bargaining and strike action are not illegal in most not fucked societies, though “wild cat” strikes (those not organised via a union, reaching a particular voting threshold) are more often than not illegal.

That’s got to be the most stupid thing a human can do, but at the end of the day, there is a reason why they are uber drivers

    1. While it might increase the payout for the drivers, it also increases the price for the one ordering food eventually.
    2. if 5 people are doing this, person number 6 will take the job, smirk, and earn money while all the others don’t earn anything at all.
    3. things like these are most likely illegal, as what they are forming is a cartel. They are individual contracors, individual legal entities. If they make such deals to increase their price, they will not only all get banned from Uber, they also face charges with fines.

All of that, so that they get €15.63 instead of €15.61

Then you’ve probably never heard CEOs speak. You should broaden your worldview, maybe get a job.

      1. then the rider doesn’t get lowballed, the corporation doesn’t make a profit, and the customer has to make their own food. Win win for everyone.

      2. Most likely, these 5 will beat the shit out of the sixth one, and deservedly so. If not right there and then, then sooner or later. Class consciousness will naturally form over time. Its inevitable lol

      3. eh, who cares about laws made to protect corporations? If every rider starts doing it, uber goes out of business Or they can take a lower profit and continue to be in business. Or best of all, people will just start destroying their assets. What are they gonna do once their stock starts tanking?

I think your naivety stems from not having ever worked a real day. Someone who has a real job doesn’t really talk like you. Hell, even the most batshit CEOs aren’t as overtly anti-worker as you lmao.

If you’re a teenager, reality will hit you like a truck. If you’re an adult, I pity you and hope you figure your life out.

The answers to this comment are cringe. Like everybody is insulting you and I have no idea of what their arguments are.

Like, i hate how you represent uber drivers. No they are not that dumb, and it’s not because they are dumb that they are uber driver. It has a lot more to do with how the market for peopme with low education is scarse of job. But don’t equate education with intelligence.

Now for the rest of your arguments, I’m hoping someone will explain the problem with your reasonning. But alas I think hate only calls hate.

I’m wondering if you removed your intro sentence maybe peoppe would have actual debate?

I read the 3 arguments and fail to see how they argue for it being stupid?

Yes, the price will increase, yes, some scab might accept the low bid, yes, it might in breach of their bullshit contracts.

It’s true. All of it. And it’s still the right thing to do, because these are not arguments for not doing it. The 3 points only describe what the drivers are doing. It does not explain why they shouldn’t do it.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I try to only correct people who seem slightly wrong and will likely consider what I’ve said. You can’t reason someone out of a position into which they were not reasoned.
