I like the thought of him just narrowly getting away with the deposit and the next tenant is sitting there chilling. The light hits the wall just right and he could swear he sees the map of middle earth but nobody believes him.

Often it’s not the colour that shows through, it’s the texture, which would take quite a few coats to blend in. There are thicker primers made to even out texture differences though so a tinted coat of that and one coat of paint would probably do it.
It can be but to be honest - and having painted over a wall painted with differing paint before - the ultimate difference is not noticeable unless you’re looking for it.
I have moved 15 times in my life, and never failed to cover up anything with 2 coats of quality paint.

That’s not how drywall works. You’d have to cut the studs out too, since the drywall is screwed into them, otherwise you’ll pull the screw heads through the drywall and damage the map.
