Tl;dr: 75-yo old woman attacks the employees over a sandwich, rips hair from one of them, put that hair in her purse, calls the police and dies.

At that point, two other employees intervened, and as they were pulled apart, a “chunk of hair” was pulled from the shift lead’s head, “leaving a raw area.”

Once separated, the employees got behind the counter and Grayson sat down, taking a phone call. She was seen picking up the shift lead’s hair and putting it in her bag, police said.

“This is a heartbreaking situation for everyone involved and especially for Ms. Grayson’s family,” the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said in an update on the case Friday.

And not especially heart breaking for the employee who got their hair ripped put by a psycho and then had to watch that psycho doe and then live for months under the threat of having to go to jail for being attacked?

Medical records obtained by investigators after her death showed she had recently been treated for congestive heart failure, hypertension, shortness of breath, and other complaints related to cardiovascular issues.

But not “being a cunt”, so I guess that was her decision, not a medical condition.

Is “taking it out on other people” the same as physically attacking them? Because she could have killed these young people if they hadn’t defended themselves and banded together. She might have snuffed out their entire lives because she felt shitty!

I genuinely feel bad for your dad and for this lady. It’s terrible and it’s unfair. But, like anyone dealing with something chronic, it’s also their responsibility to manage. If they can’t, they have no business being in society with other people…

do you think we should lock everyone up who is dealing with physical and mental problems that may overwhelm them? throw my dad in jail because what, he’s in so much pain and depression that he can’t think straight?

If they’re going around attacking people yeah. People like that need to be handled, not allowed to go around inflicting themselves on everyone else. It sucks but minimum wage workers aren’t trained or compensated to be carers for the mentally unwell.

She wasn’t beaten to death for being rude. She attacked a manager for telling her to leave after berating a 17 year old employee. She punched the manger in the face, yanked her to the ground by the hair and continued punching her while on the ground. The manager only got away after the chunk of hair she was being held by was ripped out of her scalp.

She died from a heart attack because she started a fight with a 20 year old girl while having congestive heart failure. The manager even brought her a cup of water to a person who just assaulted her because they were worried about them.

As a person who worked in retail, and managed and owned retail shops, I never allowed that nonsense to rule my stores.

Especially when I own it, that shop is my Kingdom, and I am the Emperor. What I say goes, and the very LAST person that makes decisions in my shop is the customer, and I am not at all afraid to say that directly to a customers face, and I have.

I have opened a shop with the product I have created, and I ALLOW you to enter and partake. If you can’t appreciate the access to my product, and behave accordingly, your access to that product will end, and you will NEVER experience it again.

Do not EVER tell me “the customer is always right” in MY own shop. You enter at MY pleasure, and I don’t care what you want.

Elderly woman has a total breakdown due to medical condition and somehow that’s not the headline. This could be a real conversation about how elder care and how maybe it isn’t a great idea to have the elderly in charge of things unless they’re under constant medical supervision. Instead the top comment is “over fucking a sandwich- what a bitch!” Anita Grayson may have lived like a saint for all we know. At least, up until her body breaking down causes psychosis - which can happen to literally any one of us.

    What a fucking stupid society.

There is literally nothing in the article about psychosis.

You are writing prose based on nothing but your desire to muddy the water and refusal to believe someone old cant be a fucking aggressive asshole just because they are simply an asshole.

And let me tell you, Plenty of young, aggressive assholes grow into old aggressive assholes who are still convinced they can slap people around and get what they want, like they did with their children when they were 4.

Her medical history, combined with this behavior, if anything seems to lean towards her just having anger issues for a really long time.

There’s also no evidence this is an event of psychosis. She was fully aware of her surroundings and events, as she knew why she was angry. The only evidence I see of her likely dying was an adrenal response because it is not that easy to rip out hair, especially at that age. And even that’s a stretch - most likely she already had clotting issues and a weak heart, and the anger finished her off.

You’re drawing your own inferences from who knows where. Cardiac psychosis can be something that could (rarely) occur in late stage CHF patients. Those folks can barely move around at that point though.

This woman did aggravate her serious medical condition, though, and I’m willing to believe she didn’t have a complete understanding of it.

I say this being in full agreement we need better healthcare in the US. But I’ve also seen people with access to great care who just didn’t give a shit about the recommendations of their doctors. People are complicated.

I don’t doubt someone probably made that claim and popularized it for their own reasons, but anytime someone makes a similar claim about mental health and assault I am always dubious.

People having a mental health crisis are overwhelmingly more likely to be the victims of violence than perpetrating it.

You can calm down the performative social justice stuff. While what you say is true, it is irrelevant to this discussion. We’re not discussing whether someone experiencing a mental health crisis might hypothetically attack someone. We’re talking about whether someone who did attack someone did so because of a mental health crisis. The attack is not in dispute. Their moral and legal culpability is.

We’re talking about whether someone who did attack someone did so because of a mental health crisis. The attack is not in dispute.

And the fact that people experiencing mental health crises aren’t likely to be randomly violent isn’t relevant?

Their moral and legal culpability is.

Intent almost always influences legal culpability.

I love the fact that literally nothing in any of the evidence hints at a psychotic episode, but people like you gotta hallucinate facts just to justify your imaginary narrative that old people are sweet as candy and innocent as newborns and can do no wrong.

It’s not about the age of the person. If somebody is acting very erratically (for example, starting a physical fight over pickles) I’m inclined to assume that the individual in question likely has some underlying issues.

If you want to assume ‘entitled boomer’ that’s on you; to me that looks no better than when someone assumes ‘drug dealer’ when the dead person has other attributes, based on their particular prejudice.

That really sounds to me like there was some underlying health issue and the customer lost absolute control of herself as she succumbed to it.

That may be the case, but there are countless videos of people committing felonies in restaurants/fast food chains because someone made a mistake on their order. There must be a lot of underlying health issues in the US 😆

Didn’t we literally just have a headline that 90%+ of US adults do not seek healthcare because they can’t afford it?

There’s something called Penrose’s law: the prison population plus mental care population is a constant. So a country that doesn’t take care of mental health needs to handle it as crime. Pretty simple when you think about it, but the dude had stats to back up his assertion.

Living in the US is a health issue lol, especially mental health, especially if you have too few decimal places in your bank account.

‘There is no audio, but the employees told investigators Grayson slammed her food on the counter and made an expletive-laced demand for a refund, accusing staff of making her sandwich “wrong on purpose,” according to the report released last week.’

Well, I have no idea how Anita Grayson lived, but i know how that bitch died. Who treats staff like this? Over a fucking sandwich?

especially a Tim Hortons sandwich. They could make the sandwich completely “right” and perfect and I’d still be upset because I decided eating something, anything, from Tims was a good idea.

WHO ASSAULTED SOMEONE WHO WAS PROTECTING THEMSELVES

Funny how all you hand wringing creative writers are trying so desperately to leave that part out and invent some fictional narrative that she was a kind, sweet woman who was ravaged by undiagnosed psychosis that no one has any evidence of.

I never said she was a sweet woman. I said mental illness MAY have been the cause of her abusive nature. And you don’t know it isn’t any more than I do, you stupid assclown.

mental illness that you have NO EVIDENCE of.

You are sitting here desperately trying to pull an AI hallucination to invent scenarios that fit the prompt you want.

She could have been, but that doesn’t excuse her actions, unless maybe it was totally uncontrollable (like Tourette syndrome) and she was doing everything she could to get help and fix it. If you’re not trying to change it then that’s just who you are, and if it’s something that could be changed then you’re just an asshole.

100% correct. Back in the late 70s/early 80s I had an uncle, technically my grandmothers brother. He’d never married and she was widowed so they shared a house together. In retrospect, I think he was probably a closeted gay man.

Anyway, All through my young years he was a very kind and generous man. Smart too. He bought a Commodore home computer when they first came out and let me play games on it. He used it to write up a family history of everything he knew about our family’s past. He also make a cookbook of all my grandmother’s recipes. He printed both of those out and gave a copy to every household in the family. He had a shocking level of technological aptitude for a 60ish year old man in the early 80s.

Then one day he changed. I was young and nobody told me exactly what it was. Maybe a stroke or something. From that day on he was as mean as a snake. He’d rip into anyone over anything. Not violently, I don’t think, anyway. But he’d scream and swear and slam things and be generally viscous. It was as if my uncle just died and was replaced by a scary, mean old-man who looked just like him.

While this woman may have been a bitch all her life, I’ve known plenty of healthy, young people who were no better than this. She might also have been emotionally disturbed and no longer the person that she was. Without more information, we’ll never know.

What is the law regarding elder abuse in the USA?

Any kind of elder abuse should be dealt with swiftly and harshly worldwide. She should be punished for assaulting an elder at the very least.

Sometimes america just don’t make no sense.

Editing: I’m aware of the case, what happened, who put hands on who. What I’m not aware of is where self defense blurs and elderly abuse begins.

    You guys okay? So hostile.

Was she a witch or something?
