      It’s the little bits of batter that float up to the surface when battered items get dumped into the friers.

      Not all places in the UK do them which is strange because it’s essentially a waste product.

      Little crunchy bits of cooked batter, sometimes sprinkled on as an extra. Normally given away free.

      It is (or at least used to be) the excess batter that dripped off the fish as it was cooking.

        Long John Silvers does that, though they are pretty rare these days. Never really thought about it, but that’s as close to an English chip shop as we get.
