Trump is popular because, whole being a narcissistic anti social asshole with psychopathic tendencies, he has a certain charisma that appeals heavily to the maga base. Make cruel jokes about vulnerable people and such, that kind of thing. He does it quite well, credit where credit is due.
Vance would become president but he is about as charismatic as a closed umbrella and maga won’t support him further than they can throw him.
