If they can’t back up that statement with testimony from multiple families, with corroborating school records, then that statement is a lie, and everything else that sheriff testifies to should be considered a lie, too.
I hope this lawsuit bankrupts that county’s entire law enforcement effort. Make them close down and offer no security to that county. They’d be safer without predators policing their thinking.
Even if it’s not a lie, it’s still not a crime. The sheriff should be held personally responsible for this, he should be prosecuted by the state, and the victim should personally sue him directly in civil court.
The sheriff will probably get an award for accelerating the moral purity or something.

The republican party broadly is both capitalizing on his violent, public murder to tighten up the narrative and milk persecution from the narrative, but also they are absolutely fuuuuucked for the future.
Kirk was one of the very, very small list of people who were going to be the frontrunners and public faces for the GOP after Trump keels over finally. There are so few people who have the charisma and laser-focused persona to capture that base of easily-distracted, dumbass rural hicks and midwest church-loyalists alike, and Kirk had the potential to be the pied-piper to the entire nest of rats. He had both character appeal and he was a fundraiser and a leader of the right’s warchest.
Now they’re left with schlubs like Vance who nobody likes, or media personalities who care far more about their bag than policy like the entire self-destructing manosphere online or the Daily Wire clowns going at each other as they each try to gauge how fucked their ideological grift is going to be for the next decade and each of them hoping to find a place to land on their feet.

The sheriff & DA should be held criminally liable. This is very clearly a violation of constitutional rights under the color of law.

And qualified immunity in theory is a good thing. Imagine if a rich criminal brought civil lawsuits to every individual involved in prosecuting their case.

Or at least some form of insurance that the police pay for out of their own wallets (see malpractice insurance). That would also stop these chuds from jumping to a different county/department when they “accidentally” kill someone because theyd quickly become uninsurable.
This is a few counties over from where I’m at, but the biggest thing was Channel 5 News did an interview with the Sheriff and he basically admitted on air that the guy wasn’t guilty.
Like I can not stress how much the State’s county DA and Sheriff have fumbled this case and basically handed this guy a blank check.
And the thing is, while a majority of folks were okay at one point for punishing guy over his meme, the county has all but replaced all that with disgust how how terrible the cops have handled this.
Like they’re still upset about the meme, but nowhere near as upset with how self destructive the Sheriff’s department has been.
So they’re cool with blatant first amendment violations, they’re just pissed off that the government was sloppy about it?
