This was happening to me but then stopped and I’m not sure why.
I already deleted Reddit from my bookmarks and started adding -reddit.com into my Google searches. If there was an easy way to default -reddit.com into every search then I would do it.
I don’t know of a way with Google, but with Kagi, I can block, penalize, or promote domains from my search results.
Hilarious
Fuck you spez.
You guys are still using reddit?
They’re gonna shut down old reddit or make it a premium feature aren’t they?
I will not install their app. Period.
I hope it ends up pushing more people here!
👋 hello it’s me
More people
Welcome!! :)
If you’re on Firefox, download a user agent plug in and change your your browser to say it’s a tablet or windows pc. Problem solved. I already do this when their page locking pop-up started bothering me lol
That dumbass app was enough reason why I’m here.
RedReader still works and isn’t all that bad.
old.reddit works fine~
This also worked for me for the longest time. I recently stopped using Reddit (as we all should) but if you gotta use it at least use old.reddit.com/r/subredditname
Welcome Reddit refugees! (Dumb assholes, bots and shills notwithstanding.)
That first part is notwithstanding a very high percentage of us!
Using an app means more bloat, more ads, more notifications, more forced engagement and more tracking. Since the site very clearly works through a mobile browser there is no technical reason for doing this. It is about forcing people to doom scroll this shit rather than check in from time to time.
So much information will be lost by locking it behind an app. I hope lemmy is ok answering 20 years worth of reddit questions because we are going to need to document all that information somewhere.
I saw this recently, it had an X button to close for me.
“These users are already familiar with Reddit and we’ve seen that the experience is much better for them in the app. The app offers a more personalized experience and users can more easily find communities that match their interests.”
Lmao. The personalization is exactly what I don’t want, so fuck off. Also, it’s pretty easy to circumvent. I’m sure there’s multiple ways, but I just go to old reddit.
They’ll kill old Reddit eventually
And then the site will effectively die
I wouldn’t mind if they did it soon tbf. That way I would find other ways to pass the time at work
That sentiment reminds me of this:

“Here’s a bunch of lies. We are going to track the fuck out of your dumb ass.”
“I Like Money” ~Reddit’s shareholders
This app has been going to shit but the fact that they shut Apollo down and permabanned me for criticizing the USA government sealed the deal
