Wtf is this thread, can nobody take a joke anymore?
Wow a man not sexually assaulting women in the train. What a creep
Maybe he already has a partner or is doing something important…
Clearly he should be inviting then to murder his wife in exchange for him murdering their husbands. That’s what strangers on a train do, right?
🎶🎸 Saaaailing, takes me to where I’m always…
Tim Lambesis that you?
The hero we deserve.
where’s the bear ?
Wish I was intelligent enough to contribute meaningfully. Instead I just consume and occasionally donate.
Donating is a meaningful contribution
That’s enough, if there’s something you like then contributing to documentation is something that’s more available to the general populace.
Hey now…
I really don’t mean this as an insult, but you don’t need to be ‘smart’ to contribute.
Take a picture of a bunny, post it to bun alert.
Take a picture of your balls, post it to gone wild.
(well ok maybe don’t jump straight to that)
Ask a stupid question on no stupid questions.
Have a political opinion, on the internet.
Find a niche comm for a video game and ask something about it.
Find a neat chart and post it to data is beautiful.
Probably the worst thing that can happen is … some random assholes give you the wrong color arrow thingy. Who cares! Fuck em! Its just numbers on a screen!
To add to this for those who may be reading it like it’s only technically related: “we all lift together”.
We all live in the same world and any positive contribution to anything will ultimately contribute positively to other things, the domino effect; perhaps even the thing you wish you could contribute to directly but “can’t”. People who care, who try, who persist despite the pain and hardship, who try to do their best, who learn and improve and find that kind of lifestyle fitting for them - are those who contribute to all they’re aware of as well as not.
By opening a bread factory, bread in your area gets cheaper > more supply > your area imports less > some other country with an open source contributor exports less > that country has more supply > it’s cheaper for that developer to buy bread
A silly made up example that may not exactly be right itself with the too many factors accounted for, but you get the point. Indirect contribution is contribution as well. This applies to all kinds of contribution, which is why a someone with good intentions that improves themselves in whatever way is a contributor as well.
What my point is, and of the original comment (if I’m not mistaken) is that doing your best truly and genuinely is enough. Not in a condescending “sure lil bro, ig that counts too” way, but in the way of the lyric I really love quoting with which I started my comment “we all lift together” (banger song from a banger game btw)
Youre an allstar…
Knowledge knows no bounds. Being smart is about always learning and reevaluating the foundations.
Smart people always are eager to learn. Self-claimed intellectuals often aren’t broad in mind, just confident.
I think that’s called being a “sugar daddy.”
Sitting next to a (supposedly) random dude and visibly being comfortable and not nervous is a green flag for the programmer.
It means he’s showered in the last week.
That’s because he showers once a month but this was taken on the first week of that month
imagine not knowing basic public transport etiquette.
two friends sitting next to you is not an invite for sex.
You clearly don’t watch the same films I do!
Public transport etiquette is not standing in front of the door while people get out. Not hitting on every girl that sits next to you is like… basic human decency.
Agreed. The woman in the middle should tell the other to please stop interrupting and continue pair programming
Yeah, that’s respect right there
“You’re near a woman and aren’t sexually assaulting them? What are you gay?”
Guys is it gay to respect women?
Too many think it is gay to respect anything.
But they start crying when they don’t get the respect they should be giving to others.
They’re having a conversation, he’s working. The caption is dumb.
The joke is that he wouldn’t be talking to them even if he weren’t doing whatever he’s doing. So yes, the caption is dumb, on purpose, in order to be humorous. I hope the joke is better now I’ve explained it.
You’re ruining the joke
was there a joke?
Yep
If you can very easily explain a ‘joke’ with an incredibly common, mundane explanation…
You probably do not have a very good joke.
Gosh, just laugh or give it a ↓ if you don’t like it
Yeah, he’s not joining the conversation because he’s working on some open source code. Thats what it says.
I’m pretty sure he is debating with someone on github PR/issue thread
He’s not joining the conversation because they’re strangers who just happen to be riding the same public transit as him.
Indeed, and he could join in the conversation and have a very nice conversation and make friends. But he is not doing that because he is working. It is not likely that he would join the conversation if he wasn’t working, as such the joke does not make much sense, but it is definitely something he could do, which could indeed be a nice conversation for the three of them, or it could be terrible for some of them.
I don’t see why you put it down so black and white. Is it prohibited to start a conversation with strangers on public transport? How do you meet people? I often talk to strangers, it’s generally pretty nice.
Granted, the last few years I didn’t take public transport very often: I mostly walk, but when I do I generally start a chat with someone.
No, it says he’s saying something to them. It’s right there.
ok mr no fun allowed
“it’s called dark humour, librul” vibe comment
Comedy is legal now which means really bad and stupid jokes that only alcoholic bigots would laugh at are funny again.
please please please i wanna be a comedian i want people to think im funny, im so lonely and miserable please ill be happy if you laugh please laugh, goddamnit laugh or ill vote for trump again
I don’t get it
He’s respecting their privacy in a place where they HAVE to share space with him. Good guy contributor.
Unlike the camera person…
You’re right. He should sit and stare at them instead
Are you telling me he should be hitting on them in this situation?
I think that is the implication.
Iirc there are some studies saying that people in general are happier when they make small talk with strangers on the train, which i definitely would not expect because i would want to be left alone.
I can imagine a version of this where the two are talking in a way signifying it isn’t a private conversation, and the computer guy says something interesting that adds to the discussion, and then all three have an enjoyable social interaction after which he goes back to coding, or whatever.
I think the fantasy that a man could be so attractive as to chat up two women strangers on a train is the kind of idea that leads to harassment.
they already pushed their commits 😎
