Great campy movie that’s better bc the main cast took themselves way too seriously.

My fun trivia is one actor just started their sobriety when in production, another was about to begin a decades long rollercoaster ride of addiction, another was in the rock bottom of alcoholism (and you can actually see it in this photo), and the only comic actor in the squad HATED the others.

    RIP Cardinal

He completely saves that movie. Charlie and Kiefer are coked off their tits. Oliver is drunk. Chris is about ready to spend his entire career in a rubbish crime procedural show.

But Tim is in a pantomime, he’s going to enjoy it, and so are you.

Up there with Raul Julia in Street Fighter and Alan Rickman in Robin Hood. RIP to all those magnificent bastards.

I mean, read the books… the reason he was rejected from the musketeers was because he needed to serve in another unit for a period of time. he goes away getting into duels with everyone, because he was a gascon, and they were basically the muricans of the time. In any case, during his adventure in which he was doing a favor for the queen

during the ordeal, the Cardinal’s man- Count Stinky Cheese- (aka Captain Balthasar de Montmorency, Count of Rochefort,)- was given a full parden for things he did. D’Artagnan got caught and was being accused of treason, but had successfully gotten the favor done. Since he was apparently Capable, the Cardinal handed him a captaincy with his soldiers; in part for averting the worst of the Cardinal’s plans. (I think the king suggested it as a way to get the D’Artagnan the experience for the musketeers.)

they were the royal guard, its just what they were called. the musket was not really a thing at that time, it was mostly called a arquebus

They were founded in 1622 when Louis XIII furnished a company of light cavalry […] with muskets.

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musketeers_of_the_Guard

The novel starts in 1625, they did have actual muskets at the time, thats where the name of the specific unit comes from. “Heavy muskets” (= arquebuses) fell out of use starting in 1550 and were replaced by snaphance flintlock muskets.

The heavy musket went out of favour around the same time the snaphance flintlock was invented in Europe, in 1550.

the unit that Charles de Batz de Castelmore served in was called Les Mousquetaires du Roi, or the the Musketeers of the king. Charles de Batz de Castlemore served as a captain in the unit during Lois XIII and Dumas roughly based his novels off his exploits.

As an aside, one of the few things the movies gets right about the novel (or even just the period) was the general foppishness of the military culture and upper-classes of the time.

Maybe that’s just the face Patrick Stewart makes when he finds a person who isn’t well versed in the classics, and he reused it for that episode.

He is in ten years later (which iirc, the movie is closer to in plot.)

In the books, he goes to the musketeers and presents his father’s letter of introduction, but gets turned away since he needed to serve a period of time in another unit. By the end of musketeers, he joins the Cardinal’s and goes to war with the three.

Edit: to clarify, the war is against England, not the cardinal. the Duke of Buckingham invades and france’s armies are called up- including both the Cardinal’s church soldiers and the king’s musketeers. There’s a lovely little scene where they’re at a siege, the defenders are lobbing cannon at them, and the french infantry are mostly hanging back waiting for something to change. D’Artangan takes a dare or bet to go eat lunch within range of the castle’s cannon and the three go join him, hurling insults at the english.

“The Three Musketeers and That Fucking Guy Who Just Won’t Go Home” was slightly too long for a movie title. Woulda been fine as a We Are the Union song title though.

      ENT S3E21 “Hollow Pursuits”

Technically, they were simulated (Picard, Data, and La Forge) as musketeers (Riker is the villain) in Barclay’s program.

      Clearer shot, top right.

You’re right, though. The big forehead, droopy eyes, mild scowl, and similar nose.

At least, by TNG/DS9 they are to a degree. The Klingons held that role in TOS. The occupation of Bajor with the concentration camps reflects on WWII Germany a fair bit, plus other dictatorships. The Obsidian Order certainly stands in for the KGB, though.

Movie is called The Three Musketeers There are four Musketeers pictured above.

(One actually isn’t a Musketeer, but we are ignoring that for the joke)

In ENT S06E10-11 “Chain of Command”, Picard is abducted by the Cardassians and tortured. He is shown 4 lights and is told there are 5. When asked by his captors how many lights there are, he responds “There are FOUR lights!” His captors tell him he will be tortured until he sees 5 and they continue to try to break him.

      Great episode(s).

Weird to get one key detail wrong. Almost like you’re imprisoned and intentionally throwing in false bits as a signal warning.
